Four-photon interference with asymmetric beam splitters.
Two experiments of four-photon interference are performed with two pairs of photons from parametric downconversion with the help of asymmetric beam splitters. The first experiment is a generalization of the Hong-Ou-Mandel interference effect to two pairs of photons while the second one utilizes this effect to demonstrate a four-photon de Broglie wavelength of lambda/4 by projection measurement.
متن کاملPhoton quantum mechanics and beam splitters
We are developing materials for classroom teaching about the quantum behavior of photons in beam splitters as part of a project to create five experiments that use correlated photons to exhibit nonclassical quantum effects vividly and directly. Pedagogical support of student understanding of these experiments requires modification of the usual quantum mechanics course in ways that are illustrat...
متن کاملEvent - based simulation of single - photon beam splitters and Mach - Zehnder interferometers ( ∗ )
– We demonstrate that networks of locally connected processing units with a primitive learning capability exhibit behavior that is usually only attributed to quantum systems. We describe networks that simulate single-photon beam-splitter and Mach-Zehnder interferom-eter experiments on a causal, event-by-event basis and demonstrate that the simulation results are in excellent agreement with quan...
متن کاملAtom interferometry with up to 24-photon-momentum-transfer beam splitters.
We present up to 24-photon Bragg diffraction as a beam splitter in light-pulse atom interferometers to achieve the largest splitting in momentum space so far. Relative to the 2-photon processes used in the most sensitive present interferometers, these large momentum transfer beam splitters increase the phase shift 12-fold for Mach-Zehnder (MZ) and 144-fold for Ramsey-Bordé (RB) geometries. We a...
متن کاملDetecting the Photon-Photon Interaction by Colliding Laser Beam Interferometry
The feasibility of detecting the photon-photon interaction using Fabry-Perot type laser interferometers developed for gravity wave detection is demonstrated. An “external” laser beam, serving as a refractive medium, is alternatively fed into the cavities of the interferometer and made to collide with the “internal” beams thereby inducing a measurable phase difference between them.
